The Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library is powered by volunteers who care about books, community, lifelong learning, and the place that holds it all together. Find your way in.
Did you know that the Friends is 99% volunteer run? With the exception of our newly hired Executive Director, every other position is filled with a volunteer.
Every dollar we raise, every event we host, every committee that meets runs on time and skill that volunteers give. Public libraries are one of the last places in American life where everyone is welcome on the same terms. The Friends exist to keep that promise strong here in Miami-Dade.
When you volunteer with us, you're doing one specific thing: helping a public institution serve more people, better.
We've organized volunteer work into three pathways so you can find the level of involvement that matches your life right now. You can move between them anytime. Many of our committee leaders started by setting up chairs at a book sale.
Show up when we need hands. No long-term commitment. Pick a date, register, and we'll see you there. The best way to start.
Bring what you know. Marketing, photography, graphic design: specific skills for specific roles at specific events.
Join a committee, share expertise, or work toward a leadership role. Monthly meetings, ongoing projects, real influence.
Reach out. Our Volunteer Coordinator will help you find the right starting point, and there's no wrong door.
