looking to make an impact in our community? join our board!

Trustees of the Friends of MDPL are volunteers, drawn from the community at large, with a passion for furthering the Friends’ mission! They do this in three ways: Awareness, Advocacy, and Fundraising. The fully staffed Board of Trustees will have 12 members, each focusing on one of our pillars, in line with their areas of interest and expertise.

Qualifications

  • Passion for libraries and a strong commitment to the mission of the Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library
  • Experience in nonprofit governance, fundraising, or community advocacy is preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
  • Leadership experience and strategic thinking abilities
  • Willingness to contribute time, talent, and resources to support the organization
  • Reside in Miami-Dade County

General Responsibilities for Board Service

  • Actively prepare for and participate in quarterly Friends Board meetings.
  • Join and actively participate in at least one of the Board committees. Committees generally meet once per month, but time commitment may vary depending upon the committee and Friends schedule. 
  • Volunteer for at least one activity per quarter, including, but not limited to, community events, advocacy hearings, city council meetings, or community events.
  • Responsibilities may change as needed by the Board’s priorities. 

Time commitment

  • Term Length: 1 year, with the possibility of renewal at the Annual Meeting
  • Approximate time commitment: 5-10 hours per month, including quarterly Board meetings, monthly committee meetings, and occasional special events

 Volunteers interested in raising Awareness of the Friends’ mission should have a background in marketing and communications. Experience with CRM, content creation, social media, and event planning are welcome.

  Volunteers interested in Fundraising for the Friends’ mission should ideally have experience in corporate or nonprofit fundraising, such as creating a fundraising plan, identifying donors, writing proposals, executing campaigns, and evaluating performance against goals.
